70-74 cuda front grille.
« on: December 13, 2008 - 11:18:33 AM »

   Hello again,
Can anyone tell me the story behind the Red inserts in some cuda front grilles.  some have a red pinstripe along the center fin also ?

Mine has been painted out in black, but you can still see traces of red close up.   Is it a MOPAR  thing ?

                                                                         cheers, Cudaneil    :england:      ;)

The red insert in the grill are only on 'cudas (Vin start with BS) in 70, 72-74. Just so you should notice right away it's a 'cuda and not a Barracuda. Except the aar 'cuda of cores.

I have always thought they were the flesh/blood behind their gills, like a real fish.
Same as the hood inserts. Makes sense to me being as though they did a few fishy touches.

Depends what you're going for, it's not uncommon to paint them black or to match the car. When we restore my Dad's 73 BS 'Cuda it's a definite plan to paint the red, black. Stands out too much for our liking. Do what ever you want.

Nope. :lol2: Although, neither did the VP car, it was only assumed to be SC.

See what you mean about the red maybe being too much................might just try the red pinstripe on the centre grille fin.

Wouldnt you  need a big bulge in the hood to clear a supercharger anyway? :eek2:

red for the gills? I never thought of that but sure sounds like a good explanation. I never liked the red hood scoop inserts in the bulge hoods. It just looks wrong.

I always assumed it was to look like the red in the gills too.
