Source for 833's Parts
« on: December 15, 2008 - 03:50:54 PM »
Is there a source for misc. 833 parts. I need a "1-2 shift lever (part #89)" as it's called in the manual. It's the piece that fits thru the the cover and has the detents on the inside and the threaded stud outside, which attaches to the linkage plate. Hope that makes sense.

Looks like Brewers has them, thanks Sleepy. CP do you have a link to Passon Performance? I wanted to check them as well and the search link is not working.

I assume the trans will need to come out unless there is a way to refit the shift forks in the cover while sitting in the car. :clueless:

Thanks CP. I plan to replace the shifter seals while I'm at it and was wondering about the reverse shaft. Can that be done without disassembling the transmission? Anything other items to address while it's out.

the older 4 spd trannys have to have the entire trans disassembled to get to the reverse seal the OD trannys can be replaced from the outside

That's kinda what I thought. :banghead: I only planned to replace 2nd gear on the mainshaft. Is it that much more challenge to take out the countershaft too? Isn't that where all the little ball bearings fall out?? :clueless:

the counter shaft is the hardest part to remove & replace , there are 72 needle brgs inside & you need some sort of tool to hold them in place while you load the countershaft into the case

Never tried the heater hose trick.  I have a shortened old counter shaft pin the I made for the job, never used it either.  I just "glue 'em in" with wheel bearing grease just like the needle bearings between the input and main shafts.

Planning to avoid the countershaft all together. It's tight and the gears look good. One problem is the 1-2 slider has wear on the mesh side of the teeth. It feels sloppy in place also. Tailshaft bushing to yoke has about .010 play best I can figure so I'm sending the whole mainshaft out for inspection and repair. Tear down wasn't that bad. Snap ring pliers, a manual, and a press (which I don't have) seem to be the ticket. Thanks guys.
