Sad news of one of our fellow Challenger drivers. A great guy killed in the line of duty as a police officer.

Yes I'm also a member over at Moparts. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. HE was really a great down to earth guy. He helped me with specs when I was building my motor and other stuff. Truly a great guy.

NZ... he was using a turn-around lane to get to the other side of the highway to catch up to a guy he needed to pull over... as he was pulling out, a Ford Focus (doing an excess of 100mph) plowed right into his drivers door... he was in critical condition, then passed away... :'( :'(

My prayers go out to Unlawful and his wife (she is also a police officer).

I live in the Detroit area and this was big news, apparently Unlawful had stopped a drunk driver about 2:30am Thursday morning on northbound I-75.  There was at least one other police cruiser at the scene with their flashing lights on.  Unlawful was taking the drunk driving suspect back to the police station, he was cutting across the southbound lanes of I-75 to get to a cross-over in the median when a yellow Ford Focus struck his cruiser broadside in the drivers side.  Although not confirmed yet, there is a strong suspicion that the driver of the Focus was also drunk and was speeding (about 100mph), indications are he barely hit the brakes.  The driver of the Focus and the drunk driver were both seriousluy injured, but expected to live.

Although I did not know Unlawful personally, I know a lot of peole who did and from what I understand he was a great guy all around, he will be sorely missed.

THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF PEOPLE DID NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!

Any unexpected or premature loss of life is indeed a sad event, just a testament to the fragile and unexpected realities of life. A police officer, a solider, or even a local "Joe", we never realize what may be ahead of us. Thoughts and prayers for his wife and family.

Now, would it surprise anyone if the drunk he was taking back to the station sues the representing law enforcement agency and collects big time?   ???

In todays society that would not surprise me, make me sick but not surprise me. Although I dont think he nor any other drunk driver would have a leg to stand on. unlawfl was unlike no other person on MOPARTS and in person from what I understand. Although we never met in person Gary and I had talked over the phone for almost a year now. He said he was going to try and make Carlisle this year and I was looking forward to meeting him. He will truely be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Here is a pic of him he sent me. In the pic he is on the left.

Man, that is really sad.

Why can't we make drinking and driving a REAL penalty?  Like anything over .15 BOC, six months in jail.  .20, 1 year, .25+, 5 years.

No difference between that and waving a loaded gun around in public.  With over .20BOC, that's like shooting bullets in the air.

We have our priorities in this country real screwed up.  Even our president was convicted of drunk driving!

Sad, really sad.   :'(
