I almost DROPPED a nut!!!
« on: December 17, 2008 - 03:03:09 PM »
When I saw THIS outside a local dealership in Camp Hill...

Audi R8.  420hp, AWD "Quattro" system.  Lamborghini Gallardo chassis, Ferrari 430 Engine.

What I can't believe is that this is an approximately $115,000 car (no sticker on the windows, but still had plastic covering interior parts) and they left it sitting OUTSIDE on a SUNDAY when all dealerships are CLOSED due to PA law...  If anyone really wanted this thing bad enough, they had plenty of time to take it.

For the record, I'd take one of these before the Skyline.  ;)

They're cool looking but heavy cars. 3,500+ lbs.
I just watched a show about them on SPEED recently vs. other cars.

Ferrari still is the stud in the pasture of super luxury/perf. cars.

It's a cool car, but not for me, I don't like how the shifter feels. The gauges are cool and the seats are nice. There is also a diesel version of it in Europe which is kind of cool. I'll stick with the Aston though.

Have you weighed a new Challenger lately?  I also think the Viper is still quite heavy too - something like 3,200 pounds...

The Quattro system adds some weight, as do the "luxury" features such as leather, sound material, etc.

Pretty much everything in the US is heavy these days, thanks to safety requirements being tacked on to compensate for crappy drivers.  :)

P.S.  Why does everyone keep poo'ing on the cars I like!!  I'm gonna post a pic of my E-body up next and everyone's gonna say it sucks!!   :hyper:

I like those too, although I'm not a fan of the "roll-bar" styling over the top.   :2cents:  But if someone wanted to give me one, I wouldn't turn it down.

FYI Jeff - the engine is an Audi engine, same one they use in the A8 sedan.  I don't think Ferrari would sell an engine to the company that owns Lamborghini.  :grinno:

Apparently in addition to the chassis the R8 shares it's transmission with the Gallardo.

Ah...  I see what I did....

I read this:

Quote from: 2008 Audi R8 - Short Take Road Test - Car & Driver Magazine
Ferrari makes a big deal of its F430 engine, too, particularly with the Spider version.

It was actually comparing the two cars, discussing how the R8 engine is not only visible through a glass window, but actually adorned with LED lighting at night...

Quote from: 2008 Audi R8 - Short Take Road Test - Car & Driver Magazine
No one should doubt that the direct-injection V-8 is intended to be on display to passersby, and there is even LED lighting in the engine bay to enhance the effect at night. Ferrari makes a big deal of its F430 engine, too, particularly with the Spider version. Coincidence? Not likely, given that Audi's V-8 is as much aluminum sculpture as it is machine, and it is dressed accordingly, with considerable attention paid to its dual role as window model.

So - my bad, I have mispoken.

Nice looking car. My Sister fell in love with it when it came out. Looks like a footballers wife car. But, not for me. I heard the review on the paddle shift gear box really makes the car lose appeal to the enthusiastic driver. Being an Auto, it will probably do OK in the US but in the European market, not so well. A nice slick 6-speed would have been cool and way more grunt. Audi are cool cars and this is their first step into Super car territory. I still prefer Ferrari for super cars. Not always the quickest to 100kph but the technology and handling is racing inspired which in turn makes up for it's lack of grunt in some situations. :2cents:

AAAAHAHAHA!!!  THAT was hilarious...

By the way, this one appeared to be a six-speed manual tranny - standard H-pattern shifter.  I took a picture of the interior but the reflection from the window revealed nothing but my fat hand and the camera...  :)

And hey, I only need the nuts for kid-making...  and I don't want any...  So give 'em away, I say!!!  :)
