What would you do?
« on: December 17, 2008 - 04:19:44 PM »
Hey guys, I need some advice here. A guy I know has a '70 Coronet 500 in his junkyard. It's kinda parted out. He needs to sell off a few of his cars and he said if I put up some ads on the internet for him (he's not computer savy), I can have the Coronet for free because he knows I've been eyeballing it for the past year or so. Whenever I want it, I can come get it. The problem is....it's 12 hours away. I have access to a car trailer so renting one isn't needed.

As you can see, it's missing a lot of stuff but he has a bunch of parts he'll include in with the car. That includes a mint hood, front bumper, rear bumper, tailight panel, tailights, emblems, some trim and other stuff. You can't see in the picture but the front frame rails, inner fenders, rad support, front valance and driver's fender ARE there.

If I got it, I'd basically put it away for a later date and that's it. I wouldn't be restoring it or anything right off the bat.

What do you guys think I should do? I've had a few guys say don't take it but I don't know......:1zhelp:

That for free?  Do you have a place to keep it?  Will you still have a place to keep it after you graduate HS/college and move out on your own?  If the answer to all of those is yes, I'd say GRAB IT!  Obviously, we can't see much rust from the pic, except for the rear window, but if the other side of the car is as straight as what we can see, that looks like a heckuva deal.

Yep, that for for free. Yes, I do have a place to keep it and I will after I move out. The quarters are kinda rusty and the driver's fender has a rough patch but it isn't bad.

Oh geeze, take it already.

Obviously, you are not infected with the Mopar virus as badly as most or there'd be no question!!! LOL
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

 :smilielol:

Believe me, I am infected. I was just asking on here because almost everyone over at For B Bodies only said "run away". I won't be able to get it for a while though because of my age. I'm 16...I have to wait until  I'm 17 (10 months :() until I get my full licence. :2thumbs:

If you can store it, I'd say get it.  If anything, you might be able to sell it later.

I wouldnt do it.  You have a project now, and another that isnt even yours.  You still have two years of HS left.  Its a Coronet 500, nothing to get crazy excited about.  That, and its a flintstonemobile, almost every panel on that thing will need to be replaced.  Is that a vinyl top?  Some fun stuff may be hiding under there, too.

I'm trying to be realistic.

Oh, and is there a Barracuda or Challenger there too, or?

You said your Dad bought it?

And, we do have an off topic section.   ;)

I know I'm probably sounding like a jerk, but I really just want you to make the right decision, and trying to be real.

Are you going to go to school after HS?

He bought it to make sure it wouldn't be bought by anyone else. I bought it off of him :). Yes I will be...but I'm not sure when yet. To be completely honest, I want to see how my musician thing works out. My band is currently working on our demo CD.
