Emergency Brake Cross Bar
« on: December 18, 2008 - 02:56:13 AM »
What is a rear Emergency Brake Cross Bar?  Does anyone have a picture of the left rear one?

Also, can anyone suggest where to buy a right front lower control?

Not sure what your referring to.

New struts available but they would need to be replaced in sets... for 1-OE style used would be the way to go

Member HP2 had a good deal if they are still avail.

HD Steel Strut Rod - $50 ea
Aluminum Strut Rod - $60 ea
HD Steel Adjustable Strut Rod - $70 ea
Aluminum struts replace old bent or broken struts.  Replacement is easy once the suspension has been disassembled.  These struts are stronger and lighter than the original steel components.  They are manufactured from modern 7075-T651 aluminum, which is known for properties that are superior to 30-year old steel.  They are .875-in. diameter instead of approx .700-in. for original steel struts and only weigh 36 percent as much as it's steel counterpart.  Bushings are not included, however we do sell both rubber and poly bushings in addition to the struts.

Could it be the bar that goes inside the drum brakes? When the cable pulls on the lever it applies the other shoe.

I'm not sure what I'm referring to either.  :clueless: I just got my '70 Barracuda back from inspection and they state that "the rear emergency brake cross bar" is missing.  :crying: So whatever this part is, it must be ok to drive without it as I have driven the car and never applied the e-brake whilst parking.

I hope this helps my more knowledgeable peers.  Please advise...

I think they are referring to the piece labeled strut in the picture above.
This talks about it's purpose, but I don't see replacements available.

I think they are referring to the piece labeled strut in the picture above.

Would it be possible to drive around without that piece?  :burnout:

Check your e-brake cables & see if this part is missing? The front cable (from the pedal) is shown in the photo, the rears are not hooked into it right now.

The part listed as strut in the picture is the cross bar , park brake actuator
the picture Barry showed is the balance bar between both cables on 70 chall/cuda only

I have never tried to use the e-brake on this car as I've learned to stay off them until I've had a chance to give them the once over...

But is it possible to drive over 250 mile without the cross bar???

Anything is possible.

As a kid, I had a '68 New Yorker with empty rear drums & the rear lines capped off, I drove it all over the place.

So after I get in there and verify it is missing, then one of the parts that bullitt99 listed are in my future?
