Anyone use a GPS? Need recommendations
« on: December 19, 2008 - 09:26:37 PM »
I get lost really easily. When I get up to go to the bathroom at night, I need to leave a trail of bread crumbs to find my way back to bed. So I was thinking a gps system might help me out. Not to get back to bed. When I'm driving, I mean. Any recommendations?

My wife got me a Garmin "Numi?"  for fathers day last year, I think I have used it twice, but it works pretty good.  They are really coming down in price, so you can get a good deal now.

I've had 3 Garmins and loved every one.  The Nuvi is the current line, and they are great.  One of the best things I like about them is that you can buy map updates every year or two, whereas a lot of the other manufacturers do not allow for that.

Wish I could have bought a Nuvi. At the time they were sky high priced so I went with the street pilot. Still very good just shaped strange. like a ball. hard to put in a bag if you are taking it with you out of the car.

My cell phone has GPS built in with live traffic and weather updates. It will also give me places to eat and gas prices near by. It's the LG Dare from Verizon. I love it, but it's not exactly just a GPS unit.

You cant go wrong with a garmin nuvi, they are a reasonable price and are easy to use. You can also install updates on the garmin site for your particular model. I have the 255w and have no complants.

We have used a ViaMichelin and I was quite happy with it before it was stolen. We have since used a Tom Tom. Aside from a few spots in the Mountains of Pennsylvania, where it would lose signal, it works fine and I trust it completely. We travel to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Connecticut several times a year. They are very dependable.

In 1991 I had a map disc called Microsoft streets and trips. A road map on a cd. It was for like 18 bucks. For 50 bucks more, you could get their GPS antenna that hooked to your laptop. It worked great for years, but it was with a big laptom setting next to you.

So I bought a garmin 200 nuvi for my wife for christmas for 129 bucks and a 205 garmin for 229 :2thumbs:

I have had a Garmin and TomTom. Tom Tom had some cool features. I currently use my iphone which has a built in GPS. I haven't had any trouble with my GPS's that I owned. I also had a Dell PDA with a Bluetooth GPS antenna which was my favorite to keep in the car because no wires hanging around.

I bought my wife a nuvi 200 the other day mainly because I did not know what to get my wife for Christmas. Well, after I get it she tells me she wants some karaoke style game for the xbox 360 called Lips. So I guess its either Merry Christmas to me or my dad, don't know for sure which.

Although, sometimes I take the long way.
