Looking at the pictures, you got the one legged and 3 legged version. They also come with 4 legs.   Jason, that's a fine dog there :2thumbs:  Going to make someone very happy

Hi Jason, congrats on your new addition to your family.  I like the breed even though I prefer large dogs.  They seem to have a very strong personality and can be very possesive of their people and should be socialized while young.  I think puppy classes are a very important tool, especially for stong willed pups like the Papillon.  They are great with children, but be sure to have your daughter's friends over to meet the dog so the pup doesn't become possesive of her.  Try to expose him to all sorts of situations, and try to do so before the socialization window closes around 16 weeks of age.  They are very impressionable at this time, so now is the time to do it!  If you have any questions at all please ask.  Did you get your pup from a breeder or a pet store?  Aslo, remember this when you have him neutered "Papillons are among the more anesthetic-sensitive breeds, and owners should always discuss this with their veterinarians before scheduling surgery or dental procedures. Use of the newer safer (albeit more expensive) anesthetics such as isoflurane is strongly recommended." (quoted from Papillon Club of America website)

Here are some links to get you started.

Best of luck to you!  I am sure you will be having tons of fun soon!!!  Now, can you get me a Malamute puppy for Christmas, cause my husband won't...  :walkaway:

Damn - April's smart.  :)

Hey April - what's the chea.... ...what's the most "economically sound" way to get a German Shepherd?  I've always wanted a Shepherd, but I know they're sooooooo expensive...  I want a really good, smart dog to just sorta act as security and enforcement for when I get a house, and a garage which I'll probably be working at late into the night on many occassions.

Thoughts?

You can contact a German Shepherd Rescue Group.  Here are some links for ones that may adopt out to your area.

http://www.gsr-sp.com/

http://www.magsr.org/

http://adopt-a-german-shepherd.adoptapet.com/

I know a lot of people prefer puppies and are afraid to adopt an older dog, but there are many reasons a rescue can be better than a puppy.

*The rescue group fosters the dog and learns all about the dogs likes, dislikes, and personality.
*The rescue group will not adopt a dog to a family that is not a good match for the dog.
*Rescues will not adopt a dog out to a family until they are certian it is healthy and not aggressive.
*Rescue dogs will appreciate you more than a puppy will, as they have usually had a hard life.

You will still have to pay for a rescue, but what you pay goes to the dogs.  Many people spend thousands of their own dollars per year when they foster these pets (which includes healthcare, training, feeding, etc). The small donation the rescue asks for helps to offset these costs.  If you have any questions let me know.

Jeff,

April would probably know more on this than I but from what I understand, German Shepards are a breed commonly known for having hip displacia.  It's something to keep in mind if and when you do go puppy shopping.
