« on: December 21, 2008 - 01:37:47 PM »
I bought my 71 fish with a 2005 used 5.7L engine.

I would like to find details on this enfine. I was told that charger engines do not come with MDS, is ths true ? is there a book on these engines ?

thanks a lot

The MDS system is a product of the PCM, not the engine. The PCM shuts down fuel injectors and spark, cutting cylinders at cruise and other light load conditions. The basic engine is the same one that has powered any Hemi-equipped Chrysler product since the 5.7 Hemi was introduced. The beehive valvesprings are still a weak point, but I believe that most of the other technical "problems" in the new Hemi have been addressed.

Lifters are different on the MDS engines. Easy to convert over if you need to remove it. Check Amazon or Ebay, there are a couple books out on hotrodding these motors, but not much written in book form about retrofitting.

The PCM is different, but the most important part is the lifter manifold and the lifters. Not sure you can remove the lifter manifold seperately from the block. Let me check something...

Just checked and there wasn't a charger for 05. Is it possible that the engine came out of an 06 charger or an 05 Magnum or 300? Both the 300 and the Magnum had MDS in 05 and the Charger would have it as well in 06. The trucks did not have MDS in those years. Hopefully it's not a truck motor - which I think you could tell by the intake manifold. First pic is the car intake, then lifter assembly and finally a truck engine. If you have the stamping number(s) on the engine, I might be able to determine what it is exactly.

It's the car motor, it should have MDS, let me see if I can find an image of the wiring connector where the MDS is.

Here is the location for C101 which is for the MDS on an 05 (first year of the 5.7L in the LX platform).
