serpantine belt drive
« on: December 23, 2008 - 12:46:36 PM »
Any cheap kits from a newer car that can work with my older 340? I cant seem to spend 2500-3000 on a serpantine kit  Thanks

March Performance has a kit for about $600.  It doesn't look as nice as the $3K ones, but it is a serpentine.

What sort of fabrication skills do you have? Just about anything can be made to work, hardly anything will bolt in. Unless you were to have a later 318/360 magnum block.

All the magnum block motor stuff will bolt right on if you get the water pump and everything that bolts to it. Only drawback is you will have to run an electric fuel pump no place to mount the old one the magnum front cover. You can get some decent dress up stuff for that setup.

Im already running an electric fuel pump so that wouldnt be a problem. So a 318 or 360 magnum water pump will bolt right on?

Have pictures? Isn't the waterpump a reverse flow? How will that work out?

I was had the understanding that there are a few threaded holes that need to be in the block for accessory mounting (p/s pump being one)

As long as you use the truck fan its not a big deal its made to run in reverse.

I will look for some pictures for ya. and check on that bolt hole thing also.

Thanks, I'm curious. I have a MP 360 Magnum block that seems to have most of the correct holes in it, from what I understand. I was told to run the truck/van assembly. I have an electric fan so no need for the truck fan. (if it clears).

Not positive the 360 will make it into the car, but would like to know either way. Thanks!

Still looking for a picture (pre digital) goody I did not think about clearance, I swapped it on a truck, but I think it would clear on an ebody   :dunno:

Sorry if I led you astray

the reverse water pump is reverse rotation not flow as the serp system turns the pump CCW instead of CW , the rest should work fine as long as youy use all of the newer parts including alternator which will need some wiring creativity
