bolt on top left of diff (brake t)
« on: December 23, 2008 - 03:15:42 PM »
another question, i just sheared off the bolt that holds the brake line T junction on the top of the diff. can i temporarily replace it with another bolt that doesn't have a hole in the middle? what is the purpose of the hole anyway? diff breather/vent?

Yes, that is the vent for the rear end. With a solid bolt you would push gear oil out the seals.

There should be a cap over the bolt to keep out most debris/water. Do you have that?

Please excuse my unrestored original differential thats been ran hard. It's not the prettiest thing, but it has stainless lines! . I popped the cap off so you can see, there is a little spring loaded lid in there, I guess so it's not 100% open all the time.  :faint: :misbehaving:

Hearing the story of how it got there would be interesting, but......

I hope he does not tell us.
