Ok need some help with my new cluster please?
« on: December 23, 2008 - 04:32:16 PM »

Does anyone have a picture of an original 70-rally cluster?
I sent my cluster into be restored through Instrument Specialties and it did not come back painted the same way it went in; different color scheme.

First pictures are the original second set is the ones I received back from Instrument Specialties
My question is was my cluster correct or is the new one correct for a 70?

Also has any one converted there amp gauge over to a volts gauge how did it look?

I think the tach is correct, but I think that one has been debated on here. The oil pressure and temperature aren't right, and that conversion for the amp gauge looks horrible, that doesn't seem right at all.

Even the red zones on the oil and temp? I don't recall that on mine? Do you have a picture you can post?

I see, I misread it. I think the tach was suppose to have red for the redline and that the orange is what happens when the gauge fades over the years.  :dunno: Also there shouldn't be any numbers on the amp gauge (now volt meter).

Had you specifically requested a Volt meter replacement for the Amp gauge?  If so, then it would not look the same.  Without the numbers, what good does a Volt meter do?  :dunno:

I did but I wanted the face left the same. I can live with that its the red that I am not happy with I should say lack of. :banghead:

I am running a hi amp alt so I need it to not go through the dash so volts and what I now have to use.

well.. since the volt gauge isn`t original anyway, why not make it clear to read?  at least they used the same type of numbers as the tach...
I wonder if the red part of the tach really used to be red... wouldn`t be surprised if it used to be orange when new  :dunno:   I wasn`t interested in ralley dashes back in the days.... even if I were I probably didn`t know the difference between orange and red yet...

I can Live with the volt face the back looks a little shade tree to me.  :22yikes: but it will work I guess.

I know the cluster has not been tuched in 20 years.
Could be someone painted it but I dont know my car was an early build so maybe thats why it has the red on the tem and oil  :dunno:

My original 70 cluster looks like the restored cluster pick you have, other than the volt meter of course

Ok all joking aside, I found this ad on the bag for repro decals and says that it should be orange.

Tom :dunno:

The back is messy looking but should function ok?  Is it like a silver solder to hold the assy in?
