I like the lcd myself. I have a 52 inch rca flat screen, and its great. I rock out to guitar hero on it all the time. Only thing I wish I would have bought, would be the anti glare screen.....Chris

Bright room LCD,  a dark room plasma is better than  LCD.

Or what’s on sale that is 1080p I would not get a 720.

I believe for Video games you want the LCD to prevent/lessen burn in.

There is a lot of debate on which type is better, and after a lot of research for myself I believe the plasma is better, in part because I am looking at 46" or larger. The plasma has the advantage of viewing at off angles, the downside is that the plasma has a half life (something like 50,000 hours I believe) and after that half life the screen will be half as bright as it was new. Some LCD screens can have the picture repaired but a lot of them cannot like the plasma (but for different reasons of course). Which ever route you decide make sure you get 1080p and as for brands I recommend to get either a good Sony or Panasonic. From what I have seen they have the best picture quality, construction quality and will most likely last the longest.

I would go with LCD.  My brother was shopping around and every indication he got was LCD.  A big downside to a Plasma, other than the half-life mentioned above, is that they generate a ton of heat.  I've talked to some people who had to set fans up to blow the heat away from them.

A friend of mine had a DLP and the bulb kept going out and it was like $200 to replace.

I was watching a new Samsung I think it was at a local store and was amazed at the picture. I think it was plasma and I know the player was blueray. It looked so lifelike it was really like being beside the actors doing their daily takes. Man tv's are really putting the high in high definition.

I would stay away from Samsung. Their quality is not the greatest and they go out after only a few years generally. I have a Samsung flat screeen (not flat panel) that is about 3 years old and the color is already going out on it. Their plasmas aren't much better. From what I have seen with flat panel TV's (whether it be plasma or lcd) you get what you pay for.

All I know is that its a new model and its not cheap. I dont know for sure that it was Samsung but I know they have them. They carry Sanyo, Panasonic and JVC among a few others I cannot remember.

What he said, if the room will get direct sunlight on the panel, go LCD. Also agree on the 1080P statement. The 37" plasma we have is an odd resolution so some images look out of shape. The LCD we have is 1080p.

Spend some time on avsforum.com you can learn more than you ever want to know about lcd and plasma there. Also how to size the panel to the room etc. just remember to come back here at some point and let us know what you went with....

I'm looking at replacing my 15 yr old tive with a flat screen.  What I have seen is that the 1080p are the best.  As for the plasma they have a half life and they have come down a lot.  Good luck.

I just read an article yesterday on the differences.
It said Plasma was a better picture for the larger sized screens in comparison. That it had better imaging on fast motion activity happening on the screen than LCD. It also said Plasma TV's are energy hogs compared to the LCD's.

I plan to get one also but not right now. Too many irons in the fire so to speak.

LCDs suck w/showing blacks.  Like night or space scenes.
