LH Lower dash trim
« on: December 23, 2008 - 07:49:00 PM »
I recently purchased the lower LH dash trim for the 72 Challenger I am putting together and it does not fit right.  Are these pieces different for a rallye dash and a non-rallye dash?

Thanks!

Jeff

I am guessing that I have a 70 ONLY dash trim piece!  :banghead:  I looked it up on ebay and the part number for 71-74 piece is 2984025 and the part number on the one I just got is 2984045!  I never thought there would be any difference!   :poopoke:

Oh well, I guess I will sell this one and find a deal on the correct one!

Thanks!

Jeff

The 70 piece you have is theoretically worth a little more being a one year only part.

What doesn't fit?  I think the only difference in the 70 part is the grain / texture.  I'm pretty sure they bolt on the same.

Here are the two pieces

70 Only Dash Trim

71-74 Dash Trim

See the difference?  The top front edge does not match the contour of the dash very well.

That 70 piece is probably worth at least twice what the 71-74 piece is worth. You should have fun on E-Bay with that.   :ebay:

Something doesn't seem right, all the dashes & dash frames are the same shape.

All E-body dash trim will interchange.  It is just that the 70 Challenger only had the distinct sharp edge to it and all the other (70 Barracuda, 71 - 74 E-body) shared the dash trim that had a recess instead of a point around the leading edges.  This is what makes a 70 Challenger Dash a one year only item, the trim pieces and the dash pad itself are different from all other years for 1970 Challenger. :2thumbs:

Do you have a re-covered or repop dash pad?

Many times, OEM trim won't fit on these pads b/c they were covered slightly diff. than the factory did.

Without a doubt the 70 only trim will not fit at all on 71-74s, and vice-versa. I made the same mistake and got stuck with a 71-74 piece. It will screw on, but it looks horrible with a large gap where the top point meets the pad. Just sell it and get a correct piece.
