Times seem to be getting bad
« on: December 27, 2008 - 10:22:53 PM »
I have a friend that I help out around here some times.   He was over and saw my 63 fury rust free car with a wide block 318 in it.  He fell in love with it and I told him it ran very good and just needed another coil and plug wires ( I used them on another car).  He said it would be cool to drive it up to the shows and stuff since it was an older car and the kind he likes

So I gave it to him

He got it running and sold it for 600 bucks cause he needed money

I gave him a 69 charger rally dash complete for his car..............  He sold it

The list goes on.    I was looking for another set of closed chamber heads to build. I had gave him some 516's and asked if he had any 915's laying around yesterday... He says no, and i had to sell the 516's you gave me to pay bills.

Seems just about everything I gave him is gone just to pay bills.  And there is a lot of people around here having to sell anything they can find just to stay a float.

His wife lost her job, they don't have med insurance now, he has an enlarged heart and his son needs a heart operation.  Just hurts to see people suffering like this.  I know he wanted the things I gave him.    I gave his family a 100 check for a Christmas gift.  I know it wasn't much, but it will help

It's gettin nasty out there, I'm self employed, established over 30 years, my phones stopped ringing in early august & never really started back up, sent out 9 or 10 estimates in sept, got one phone call with questions yesterday, guess thats at least hope i'll get the job, not a really big one but it will buy me another week or two, last time it was this bad was the early 90's but I think this time it will be worse & last longer.
No unemployment for me, I have to tough it out. there was a 5 or 6 week period I didn't even have a service call , now thats SLOW!
had two friends call me asking for work, could only help one with a few days on the only big job so far this winter that I started a week or two ago, maybe another 6 or 7 working days there & it's back to nothing to do.
I always keep an emergency fund, but at this rate it won't last long, can only hope for things to turn around soon.  Rich.

Sorry to hear about your friend Alan. I hope he gets back on his feet soon. It shows though just how big your heart is that you are not bitter about the guy selling stuff you gave him as a gift for his own use. You're one of a kind Al.  :clapping:

I hope that things start to turn around for sure.  That is why I am staying another year over here.  I had to help my daughter several times this year.  Seems always something.  Just glad I can now help her out of her problems.  She was about to lose her van.  I am sending her some more money on monday.

I've noticed the usual busy restaurant/bar a few blocks away is now doing about 1/3 of it's normal weekend buisness. Stores all over have "Going out of buisness" signs. We can all thank the Media for talking down the economy so much non stop the last two years to get their Dem in the Whitehouse that people have totally bought it. They had to when the war turned around. The Great Depression II is upon us. Everybody with money is clutching onto it and it won't change when Obama gets in office. They got their Man, but he has no chance of succeeding, thanks to them. Hope it was worth it when the papers all go belly up and CNN, CBS and NBC lay off even more of their people. They are also non-essential things, just like going out to dinner.

Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

Here we come Socialism. Make things bad enough for people to hurt so bad they think socialism will be a good idea. Ahhh, the Nanny State, poor people are easier to control. When they ban pistols and so-called "assault rifles" they will probably start buying guns. People will be hurting so bad they'll succeed greatly. Now, poor and un-armed citizens. We're almost ripe for picking Americans!

Sorry to get political. I haven't in so long it just had to come out!

Didnt see your reply Rich, I sure hope things start looking up for you. I am starting to get wary, not only for our economy but our country as a whole. The best time to attack a country is when they are weak and right now with everyone being pre-occupied with the economy it would be about the time those gutless wonders try some kind of crap again to try to kick us while we are down.

It goes back farther than that. Forget the truth back when the economy was not actually in recession, IT WAS according to the NYT and all the other dishonest media. Any means they can use to get what they want is justified by the end result. All newspapers are good for is to give my dogs something to poop on.

Ah,so it`s the media that`s the cause of all the countrys problems-thanks for enlightening me.  ::)
Thankfully I still have a job and getting 40 hours but just barely. If things don`t pick up a little in January we could be facing a few more getting layed off.Real estate, car dealers and small businesses are usually the first and hardest hit but the poor economy.

I dont know that one thing or one person could be the blame for the economy.  Maybe it was just time for it to happen.  I remember that in grade school my teachers saying it would happen.  Just did not happen when they thought it would.
