Rockers - something else than Crane..?????

As you know from my other post, I need some new rocker-arms.

Should I go for something else than Crane..

Anybody who can guess what the black one is, - no name or number.

It may be an early piece made by CAT ...  they are Black and were unmarked when they first came out.

What kind of cam are you going to use? Solid, hyd.? I am using these Stainless bushed ones from RAS. www.rockerarms.com they are very durable and street friendly but not very cheap. They also offer ductile iron 273 type rockers which shouldnt be too much if you are interested in steel/iron rockers. I know some people want alloy for their light weight but be careful with the ductility of the cheaper types of alloy used. I think Jesel and T&D make nice strong alloy ones but then again they will cost you. The 'black; one looks like a CAT-PEP offshore brand rocker.

I think comp cams makes excellent roller rockers and now they offer themin 1.6 ratio. I would either do those or the plane jane ductile iron non roller tip adjustable rockers. You can get them in 1.6 should you choose to. If you are going all out then stuff like what is pictured or jesel stuff is top notch. If I had it to do over again I would have just gone simple with the ductile iron rockers, they are bulletproof and even though they are ugly they more than do the job with reliability second to none.

I used a set of those in the 340 in my first Cuda with a Direct Connection .484 lift hyd. cam and hit 7000 RPM a few times with that engine. Never had a problem with the rockers.

Isky iron ductile are ok, but for $80 more Comp Cams Pro Magnums are the way to go..(steel & roller tip).
Isky ratios are not all 1.50's, could be anywhere from 1.46 to 1.50, Comps are 1.50's on the set I checked..
Not a big fan of aluminum rockers for the street unless you drive it once in a blue moon...

My cam is a Crane roller DUR 0.50  272   lift  ,625 and the heads is Indy 440-1, - thats the reason for the offset rockers..

What are the spring pressures? It sounds like you may be close to needing a stronger rocker setup.. like T & Ds. If you have open pressures higher than 400lbs over the nose I would not consider Cranes as the best choice. They, as most of the aluminum type rockers, are really a street piece. That one pictured looks more like an Indy rocker to me.

Sorry Cowboy, didnt realise you needed the offset type which I dont think RAS carries. With your race type heads I would use Jesel or T&D.

I have the Crane aluminum rockers on my car, have 1000+ passes on them.  But, have only 350lbs open pressure.

Indy just replyed my mail - the black intake rocker is from them, - I'll try to see if they can replace my Crane stuff, - at a reasonable price ..
