1970 Power Steering Column?
« on: December 28, 2008 - 03:16:20 PM »
How can I verify an E-body Power Steering Column?  Is there a spec on the length and are there any numbers on the column?

I think I grabbed a 70 E-body column PS, but want to double check it.  The lower housing does rotate AFAIKT.

Well it looks like it is one, I got 12" of Steering Shaft exposed outside of the housing and that measures the same as my PS column in my 72.  I hope that's right.

Gee, what a quiet thread this is.   :screwy:

Tom,

The exposed part of my shaft is 12" if you include that big knuckle on the end.

well this should confuse you from the bottom of the outer housing to the Top of the knuckle is 12"
from the botton of the interlock shaft to the top of the knuckle is 12.5"
& from the bottom of the outer housing to the bottomk of the knuckle is 15.5"

Uhh no , the car body is in the body shop being painted Purple , the K frame is sitting on the floor as I just stripped all the steering linkage & box off it & the column is on the shelf

Ok, sorry about that.  This is what I got.  I'm guessing the knuckle is the coupler and yours is still attached to the shaft.
The blurry one shows a "6" on the housing, I hear that the "6" was used for 70's? and a "6o" was used on 71-4's?
