Rallye dash bezel colors
« on: December 31, 2008 - 08:12:02 AM »
Just got a new bezel for my rallye dash. Is it just me or is the brown color around the gauges openings to light a brown for a 70 'cuda
New one and the old one in the pict

The brown is a little different- maybe, but also the shape of the brown area is a little different, It is too wide and has a curve to it. On a 70 type one, this is not an problem. For the 72 type one, it is in the way of the reset knobs.

Anyway, I'm glad that they are available and I'm happy with mine.

I also just bought a new bezel for my '70 Challenger  and a couple of originals and when I stacked them side by side like you did in your photo -- well, I agree the paint on the inside of the guage openings is a bit different.   In my opinion, the color is on -- but it has more gloss than the originals.    Of course, it is entirely possible that 35 plus years will dull the paint some which may account for the difference (as noted previously).   FYI, the paint that one restorer (RTE) suggests is an exact match is also a gloss paint (I have it here) -- they only charge $5 for a small bottle, but I happened to see the same (exact) bottle in a local hobby shop for under $2.00     That said, I don't mean to take anything away from RTE - as I have purchased a number of things from them and they have been very helpful!

Happy New Year!

That's what i thought to. The one I have i just like the one in rusty dodge car in color bought from PG classics. I saw BEA Parts has one for sale as well. It looks darker in the picture but so did PG's one of the site as well

RT Engineering's colors look better...but the picture in general is darker, & you can see that the curve is there .

Isn't it reasonable to assume these are all made by the same supplier?

Probably.   :grinyes:  Mine look like the very first pic in this thread. I didn't care about politically correct colors or anything, I just wanted something NOT scratched, OR faded.     I love mine... :grinyes:

Used a 3/4 pipe wrapped in tape. Placed the old bezel one on top of the new one, and held the pipe in the corner just above it. Then removed the old bezel and set the pipe down, and rolled the side up onto the pipe with my thumbs.

I used a wooden shaft about the same size worked just great :)
How did you fastend them? Did you glue the bezel the old "steel brackets"?

Here's a pict of the bezels test fitted

FWIW. I looked at mine and the new one is identical to my old original one - dark brown around the gauges (1970 Barracuda). I got it from RT-Eng the first year they were available.
