1971 340 Block For Sale-- R/T????
« on: December 31, 2008 - 02:08:06 PM »
Hi From BC!  I have a bare 340 block for sale...Dated 1/27/71...Possibly from an R/T? The bore is a touch over 4",which makes me think it's a STOCK,UNTOUCHED block...But I'm new to MOPARS,so you guys will know for sure! I'd include a pic,but it's just a big chunk of metal, right?  I can email anyone interested a pic or 2 if you'd like though...  $500 US....

has it previously been machined or is is a block that is ready to go put pistons in now?

I believe it to be original and untouched,so it will need machining of some sort....Cheers!

Here's the block #: 2780930-340-5  I'm personally not sure if it's actually from an R/T,but it's still a gem block to start with if it proves to be the unmolested factory bore,as I believe it is...It's just a smidge over 4" across....   Cheers!

It should have a partial vin stamped on the side...And you really need to post a picture or 2.   smidgen?  Is that more or less than an Iota? Or larger than a teensie weensie?  It would help if you said it would use  .010 rings, or a .020 bore or .030 bore pistons.  Has it been checked by a machine shop?  To see if it went through any freezes or are the main caps with the block?  Just curious

Vin stamp should be on the passengers side just above the oil pan rail about in the middle of the side of the block.

The frost plugs appear to be the originals for what that's worth...It didn't come with anything but the block when I got it,so I have no piston rings to compare...I got from a friend of a good friend,so I feel confident it's a decent block...For you Metric Lovers,it's appears to be about 3mm over a 4" bore...Does that help??? Probably not,eh? (Canadian Content)   Cheers!

Hey, Wingnut; good luck with the sale. If I had some cash I'd be all over it.

Here's a resize of your pic.

Hey Guys...For what it's worth,I'd consider trading this block for an 833 4speed setup for my Rally Chally...Cheers!  Jeff.

Wingnut, your just wanting a 833 trans right?  No bellhousing or shifter or selector rods and stuff.  If that's the way I'm reading your post. It is already tuff to try to sell a bare block with no internals for 500 and trading for a whole 4 speed set up , the complete 4 spd is more than twice that much.  Do you have the flywheel, shifter n rods, pedals, and the other stuff already?

Hi Moparal...Well,it was just a thought...Sounds like you think getting a 4 speed setup for this block is a pipe dream,eh? Perhaps you're right,as I'm relatively new to MOPARS...but it IS a 71 340...  Who knows, right?  It can't hurt to throw it out there anyway!   Thanks and Cheers!

For anyone interested in this block,I can get it to Vancouver BC,at my cost...Port Angeles,Wa. may be an option too,but at your cost...So if you need to figure your shipping,it'll make it a little easier to swallow...I have access to pallets,so it can strapped to one of them or crated up somehow...I'll do what I can from this end,if that helps!
