center console questions
« on: January 01, 2009 - 02:38:13 PM »
What are the differences between 70 center consoles and the rest.  I know they used a different part number, and the one in my car i think is from a 72' but will this one work?

70 has no ashtray in back. The back has a provision for the seat belt shoulder strap. And the wood grain is 4 screws the rest are held on by 5 screws. Some early 71's had 4 screws to.  It would work

Don't ditch your good console if that's all you want. The ashtray can be cut out with a Dremel tool and cutoff wheel to make the 70 style.  I guess original is what you're after but I threw my 70 console in the attic in the '80s to put an ashtray console in. The hole made it look like Chrysler forgot something, unless you always put your seatbelts in it.

They should have made the holes big enough for all 4 seatbelts then. The extra 2 still fall down between the console and seats.

What color 70 console are you looking for? I have a black 70 with no cracks in my vert and would be glad to trade you for a 71-74 with the ashtray in similar condition.

I am looking for a black one.  Mine has one very small crack on the left hand side where the plastic is the thinnest, next to the hole where the shifter comes through, that could be fixed easily.  It is missing the ashtray, but the bezel is in it.  I could send you a pic if you are interested and maybe work a deal?

I'm in PA . My brother has a really nice burnt orange 70 console. He works down near Shrewsbury. It could be dyed black.  It is in great shape. He still has the key to it. PM me if your interested. As close as you are it wouldn't have to be shipped.
