Cuda Grill Parking Light Scratch Repair
« on: January 05, 2009 - 01:57:52 PM »
Has anyone had any luck reconditioning front parking lights for Barracudas?  I know there are kits for reconditioning late model headlights when they get fogged over.  Will this kit also work for older parking lenses?  I believe newer headlights are Polycarbonate material.  Not sure it this material was around back in '70 though.

I believe I got it at Advance Auto.  It worked well, I just used some clean rags to do it.

::)   Had to use CHOME Polish on Cudaguys instrument bezel.... worked pretty darn good IMO....

Blue Magic headlamp restorer would be a good 1st step followed by the Meguiars.  :2cents:

They look pretty good clown. I bought the kit from Eastman to do mine and it didn't work to good. I took a rag saturated with Laquer thinner and they came up much better

ouch, the worst thing you can do is use lacquer thinner on fragile old plastic, I'd use some 1200 or 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper with water ,sand in one direction for a minute or two depending on how bad is discoloration and use 3M Perfect-it II Rubbing Compound on foam buffing pad at lowest speed, they will look like new and most of the pitting from over the years will be gone as well

I agree that you wouldn't think it would work, but before I did it I could ride with my high neams on and nobody cared. As soon as I cleaned them with the laquer rag people started flashing me to put my low beams on. They were really bad. They seem to be holding up good too and they are kinda shiny. Can't explain it.....  :dunno:

lacquer thinner will melt and break down the lenses, that's why they turned shiny

Anything was an improvement. Like that old man in the movie Christine said: "Ya can't polish a toid". I managed to make the toids let the light through.

It didn't melt it. I didn't leave it sit on it. Just wiped them off quickly. Worked a whole lot better than the hour I spent with the polisher and compound. That just made a mess.
