Best Way To Bleed The Convertible Top System
« on: January 05, 2009 - 03:41:02 PM »
Hi guys,

Can someone explain to me how to bleed the convertible top system on my 71 Challenger?  I had to replace the hoses and I don't want to screw it up.  Thanks

Dave

I dont know of a procedure, and I've never had to do it to any of my ragtops, but I'd say if you hook up the hoses to the pump, then run the pump to fill up the hoses before you hook them up to the lift cylinders to get the air out of the lines, you'd be good. look on the lift cylinders and see if there is some type of bleeder at the top of the cylinder. Maybe someone else has done this and knows a trick. If no-one else chimes in, i'll take a look at my 70 FSM and see if they have a procedure for this.

it basically self bleeds , not nearly as hard as it seems you need to add oil through the small fill plug in th etop of the motor & cycle the top up & down

 :iagree:

I had to top mine off a few times until it worked perfectly.
I started out by filling the lines with a large plastic syringe. Might have saved time...might not have.

I refilled a 68 lemans and a 70 cuda this week .both were done with a mighty vac pump .these hand pumps work well on brakes also .cheap at harbor freight ,also a point of interest the vac kits come with a power valve adapter to check pop offs . c
