parting a '71 newport
« on: January 05, 2009 - 09:52:53 PM »
I bought a '71 newport with a 383 just for the drive train. Is any of the front suspension componants worth saving. Will they work on an e or b-body.
Man I think this car seats about 20    :roflsmiley:
Thanks!

If it has disc brakes, they may be of interest to another C body owner. Otherwise, most everything can NOT be used on a B or E body. Except the tire rods and ends. They are bigger 11/16" units which can be swapped.

Does anyone know how big the hex on a C body torsion bar is? Not the bar diameter, but just the hex portion.

What about rear drum brakes on the 8 3/4, dont they have large ones?  Pretty sure those can swap.

Are you getting rid of the valve covers and original breathers? I'll but those from you.

Moparal: PM me a pic of the chrome peice needed.I'll check to see if it's still there. It's a 4 door. Green on green. Some interior parts are salvagable. Been sitting since 1979. I'm located in Ruther Glen ,VA
Yep it has front discs and a 8 3/4 rear 3.23 gears. The rear brakes are 11",great for my drag car. Thinking about pulling the AM  radio out of it. Not sure if it works yet though.

Lumpy: I know the 3 nipple breather and the 2bbl air cleaner is in nice shape. I'd still repaint them though.  Need to clean engine off to check valve covers.  Weather currently is not on my side. I'll PM ya pics when I can get to the covers.

If the overhead interior light is square it would be the same as a Gran Coupe or an SE.
The 71 Fury Station Wagon that I picked on at the wrecking yard earlier this summer had one.

I believe it is the square type. I'll check it tomorrow to be sure.

11 inch brakes will cause you to run slower. Takes more power to spin heavy items.  The chrome strips are on the top and bottom of the grill

Moparal, the chrome is missing. You can see where it use to to be clipped. Sorry

I looked today. It is the long upper piece of chrome on the top that is missing

Here's the pics of the engine. Has surface rust on the valve covers. Looks like they could be sanded down and painted with no problem.

I would be interested in the front disc brakes for my 69 Newport Vert. Can you take some pictures?
