Fender tags aren't illegal to sell, but being able to collect all that info will be really helpful in many ways

Yep, these are not illegal to buy or sell.

VIN tags are different.

Special handling tags came on cop cars, usually due to them being part of a fleet order where special masking and HD items were required.

 I don't get it. A member tries to sale a legit car with a repo tag, and you are all over it. But this guy is obviously selling these to anybody that wants to do a rebody, and that's OK???

You can't rebody a car with just the fender tag.  The vin tag is the hard part of the rebody.  Noone out there is stamping vin tags to match fender tags so this would be very difficult to do.    Really, the fender tag is just a novelty item.

No one is stamping them...legally. We all know that there are fake cars out there that have sold for a stupid huge pile of cash!! A good tool and die/machinist would be able to nearly duplicate a factory VIN plate.

He has the vin tag for that car though.  No DMV in the states will recognize the fender tag as a valid vin number.  The only tag that really matters on that specific rebody is the vin tag.  Fender tag is just gravy on top of the vin.  Sucks the original car is toast.

 Yes he has the V code tag and a 318 body , thats a rebody or possibly the first step in a case of fraud ,,,,,,,,, after that 318 body gets all dressed up to match the vin tag and fender tag some on lucky person might big dollars for something that is not what it appears to be.......
