After driving 5 hours from Ohio to PA for the Holidays the Viper was pretty dirty. Since I was taking it to Baltimore to show a friend I've had for YEARS I knew she had to look her best. So I went to a local car wash - it's right next door to the Goodyear shop I used to manage - it's a drive-thru coin-op, a "pay-and-do-it-yourself," AND a "pay a ton to have someone do it for you" place, all in one.
I pull the Viper into a "do it yourself" bay, snuck out my own bucket and sponge, and approached the box to insert quarters. Just then a young kid pops around the corner and says, "Hey, don't worry about it - there's a half-hour on the clock. Just spin the tires on your way out." Sweet!!
So I took my good ol' sweet time giving her a sponge bath (oooh that sounds nice, doesn't it?) And as I'm leaving, another employee hollars for the kid who had approached me earlier. He comes running out from the back to see me leave. At this point, I realize that if I DON'T spin the tires, I'm pretty much the biggest douche-bag on the planet... So I made sure I had no one around me, had all the wheels pointed straight and was even on a slight incline so that it wouldn't jump forward. Gave 'er a rev, dumped the clutch and gave a good 5-second roasting or so. I glanced back at the kid who was jumping up and down, giving me a huge
I'm sure I made his day.
