need help
« on: January 06, 2009 - 01:51:14 PM »
I am in the middle of putting new quarters on my 73 challenger.  I'm almost done with the passenger side and have a question about the driver side.  The guy before me already put a new lower quarter on the car and its ready for body work, but the outer wheelhouse and trunk extension are rusted out.  So my question, is there any way I could just replace the wheelhouse and ext. and save the quarter?  It would save alot of time and I could sell my full quarter and get some money back as well.

yes you can but it won't be as easy as with the quarter skin off,if there is absolutely nothing wrong with the quarter, just work around it,hope you got a good air body saw and plenty of cut-off wheels, cause you will need them, alot of times it's easier to cut out the panels you'll be replacing right along the pinchweld leaving just a strip, then using a cut-oo wheel or small grinder grind down the spotwelds and remove the remaining strip of old panel,it helps alot especially on previously replaced panels where spotwelds are not factory or when it's hard to figure out where the welds are after they have been ground down
