Timing Chain vs Gear Drive

As many know, I've got a 440 being stroked to a 493 and was wondering what people would recommend for a timing equipment?  Gears or chains?  I've only done motors with Chains so I don't know how reliable or better gears are.  Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Don't know how reliable gear drives are, but they sound cool!  Everyone will say "Do yah got a blower under the hood?"

all we ever use is gear drive on our circle track cars, for the extra money its well worth it, you dont have to get the noisy ones they have quiet ones now.

they definatly will not strecth with high valve spring loads but are most likely oevrkill for street engine , you can get them with quiet helical gears though

Gear drives are way more accurate for consistant timing... I run the pete jackson NOISY gear drives and I love them

Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine ran a test on this recentlly.  Small block Chevy (of course) on a dyno, the chain made the most power, followed by the gear drive, then the belt.  Chain/belt stretch or gear wear was not considered since it was back to back testing.  I've never tried a gear drive, mainly since I have not had any trouble out of the chains.
