Most important thing is you're OK.  You inadvertently have just made a lot of gearheads safer.

All my riding friends tell me they think about me every time they go out on the dunes.  I'll never forget laying in the sand telling them, "I can't feel my legs!"  :-\

I am glad you will be ok.

Safety is what we preach to the soldiers for sure with our trucks.

A good leason for all here think about what you are doing before you jump in and do it!!!!

I have had things happen to me like this and it is not fun at all.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

On the subject of ramps......I have used them for several years. The ones I bought have a depression and an actual lip that holds the tire in. I am not saying they cannot be unsafe but in my opinion they are much safer than just a jack and almost as safe if not as safe as jack stands. I use them all the time to do the oil changes on my vehicles. Sure glad you are getting better and yes, even though it was a bad thing that happened you are ok and many many people got a wake up call to sit back and reflect on their own personal safety standards.

Man, I just came across this thread.  Stroker, I'm really glad to hear that you'll be ok.  I have never had this happen to me, but I have had similar events happen, and it is amazing how fast everything goes down.  I'm really glad you were able to live to tell it.  Very scary, and you have reminded me to be more careful the next time I go under my cars.  I'm glad you will be ok, and glad your daughter still has her dad.

Dude, my first thought was to read you a riot act, but I'm guessing you've been over that a million times yourself already. You said all things happen for a reason, which I agree with; maybe the reason is to remind you to always take the necessary precautions in the future to keep something worse from happening.

..... and NEVER get a under a car when there is no one else around.

Sadly, I have no option. I live by myself, and none of my friends around here are into cars that much, with the exception of one guy two hours away who could get away maybe once every other month.

When I raise a car, I place a minimum of two jackstands, four if I can, and usually leave the jack in place as a backup. Then I heave on the bumper as hard as I can. BAsically I do everything I can to make it fall while I'm NOT underneath, before I crawl under.

That is one thing I do because I get under cars by myself whenever I wrench. The simple act of having a cell phone within reach is always a good practice to have.

Wow, I just saw this thread...count your blessings Stroker and thank goodness you'll be O.K.  :angelwings:  I had a Ford F250 truck slide off a jack due to the slick undercoating and thank God I had an extra pair of jackstands for protection.  The truck dropped 2 inches to the secondary stands and stuck.  I would have lost one or both legs under the front brake rotor otherwise  :scared:  I never get under a vehicle anymore without two sets of jack stands in place, parking brake, in gear, and blocked tires.  I'm still never 100% comfortable.  You can't be too safe.

You know, I never thought about that. I have a phone in the garage, and I could upgrade it to a cordless so I could keep the handset near me.

I also work alone a lot in my garage and keeping the cell phone within reach is a good idea.

Where I live, I can never trust my cell phone to get a signal.
