The biggest benefit IMO is getting the heat out of the gas. That's more imortant if you live in a hot climate.

That's what I was looking for!

Thanks for all the input so far, keep it coming! Always good to hear people's opinions on parts they've actually used!

 :thinkerg:

Put the electric pump in the tank it is quieter and stays cooler.

still not sure I want to mess with the mounting and wiring. Not that I can't do it, I just dislike messing with electrical stuff.  :eek4:

I am useing the factory carter hp pump for a 440-6. I have no problems. But my engine isn't but maybe 400-425 hp. I havent made any passes at the track to give a true  rating useing mph vs weight vs et.  So im just really guessing hp level :2thumbs:

I've always run a carter mech pump on a street car.

Another advantage to an electric is if your car sits long enough for the gas in the carb to evaperate, the pump will fill the carb without all that cranking.

I had a HP mechanical pump on my 440 chally back in the 80's. It sounded like a machine gun the first time I ran it at the track with open headers at the top of high gear (leaning out) so I upgraded the fuel system and never had that problem again.

I'm sure the mechanical pumps out now are better, but I'd still rather have an electric.
It sounds intimidating.  :naughty:

True, but it has to be wired into the ignition switch, so those 2 wires have to be strung into the cabin and under the dash, and then to wherever the pump ends up...

Also true. But my car isn't stock either, the power for my stereo is a wire thats soldered onto a fuse in the fuse block. Thanks PO! :villagers:  I know its really not that bad, I just haven't decided if I want to go there...The HV mechanical is sounding pretty decent. While my car may see the track a time or two, its mostly a street car. Although I do live in CA, so the temp thing can be an issue. I haven't had a vapor lock though since I re-routed the fuel line, somebody had strung a rubber fuel line right up next to the exhaust manifold  :22yikes:

A mechanical pump is bolted to the hot motor.

I have always used carter mech. strip pumps, no problems , never did. All mopars that i have worked on have used 3/8 fuel line, and supported motors with over 550 hp. My challenger runs a 500+ hp 383 with this setup and have no issues at all :bananasmi

I have a Summit electric on rubber mounts.  You can hear it over my 2 1/2" TTI exhaust.  I'm changing out to a Mallory 110 in February.

You won't believe that Mallory. You need a stethascope(sp) to know it's running.   :grinyes:
