I always wanted to change the column out of my Cuda and put a console in. Now I'm glad I never got around to it.

have a column also, mine is a 383 R/T, keep the column as very rare in a R/T and yours is a u code so very unique.

:2cents: What are your thoughts on removing the console and returning it to origional?

I think column shifts are unique + they save weight (no console, shifter/linkage, console brackets, etc). Speaking from experience of owning an original column shift bucket seat car, I removed my column. I purchased bucket seats as someone put a bench in and removed the original buckets sometime in the early 80s. I purchased a brand new 70 column for a floor shift, console and shifter set up. I think columns are cool BUT I prefer to shift. With a tilt pistol grip in place it sure does triple the fun factor.

I use the shifter (pictured below) often, slap it in 2nd around town and let the 440 burble down the rpm range, hills, engine braking, good fun. Plus it gives the car and interior the muscle car image it so deserves. For the record my car is also a #'s matching U code but I build my cars for me, modern touches but stock appearing. If you're going for all out fun, go Slap-Stik 100%, if you're going for a factory correct car, stick with what Ma-MoPar gave you. Your call so do what makes you happy.

 :2cents:

A little off topic here but, I like to admit that my first car was a challenger R/T that started life as an automatic. Before I found it, someone had put a b-body 833 4-sp in it with the shifter way up in front. No console. I installed new shag house carpeting in it. (it was 1977)....... Long story short. I was 16, the girl was 17 and I lost my virginity across the front buckets and hump. (no console)....   Sometimes you want one, other times you don't.

I was glad to be there.

Challeng61  What part of Colorado are you in? I'm in Cheyenne, WY. If you're close we must get together and  and talk Chally's.

Rob, I'll never look at 440 Challengers the same way....  :faint:

It sounds good on the surface but big problems afterward. Things aren't always how they seem.  I'll look for a pic.

I really didn't want to hijack this thread. Sorry Challeng61.

No, the pics aren't about sex.  (but the last time I had a hot 17 year old girl, I was close to that age)

The story is that the 440 Challenger was totalled within 3 months. (I have pics somewhere)
