Who knows computer software?
« on: January 11, 2009 - 02:40:49 PM »
I am planning on taking some video footage of my family over the next few days and I need to know which computer program to buy.  I need to be able to cut and splice, add music, add visual affects, and other things.  I am not too worried about price as long as it is easy to use and has great results with the finished product.

I know that the MAC computer has i-movie which I liked, but I just cannot spend the money for another desktop, so it will have to work on a regular PC.

I will be recording with a Sony Handycam that I am borrowing.

Thanks in advance.

I use Nero, and am quite happy with it.  Haven't tried adding music, etc. Just cut and splice,  burn DVD's.

Yes, use Nero.  It's gotten bloated over the years, but it's still the easiest.  Buy the full package with NeroVision for editing your movies and adding music, effects, creating a DVD with menus, etc.  MyDVD is pretty easy to use, too.

The version in Vista is OK, the version in XP is worthless.

I just noticed that  :2thumbs:

I have XP and it does seem a little hard to use.  How is the Vista version better?

Photoshop Premier works pretty good for doing video editing.  You can usually get it bundled with Photoshop Elements (basic Photoshop functionality) for under $150.  No matter what video editing software you use, be aware that it will tax your PC to the max.  So you have to be patient with it.
