I'd recommend not losing any sleep over which Intake you use  :smilielol: The heads can be dramatically improved with the right porting. It's a matter of how much you want to spend on Iron heads. The best bang for the buck is pocket porting and some short side work.  :2thumbs:

Bigger valves never hurt. A 440 needs them more than a 383 though. NOT sinking them is the important thing. (hate to sound like a broken record....)

The torker is a decent intake for a 383. it s single plane, but it doesnt have a huge plenum volume. With a properly sized cam, it will make great torque too. but 383s can be very cam-sensitive.

Here is a graphic representation of the Hot Rod 383 intake shoot out.

First is average power and torque from 2500-6500. Second is peak power and torque.

Do stock BB heads flow bad? You decide. Remember a bone stock 5.7 liter truck Hemi head flows 270 on the Intake and 300 with very minor cleanup.
what are your thoughts on the areo heads? eddy rpms?

I have the TM5 I think it is for a small block and I have never liked how the intake bolt holes infringe on the runners. I dont know how restrictive it is but it seems like it would be to some degree.

Unlike the big block versions the old Ed single planes for the small blocks are junk.  Most used the LD340 dual plane before the RPM and modern Victor and M-1 came along because it was a very good intake. On the big block TM and Torkers you can remove most of that lump internally with an air file.

You should remove all the casting flash on ANY intake before you use it and make sure the runners align with the ports. I match a gasket to the heads and then use a little grease to hold it in place. Then you coat the Intake with silicone and bolt it down centered on the bolt holes. When it dries remove it and the gaskets will bond tight to the Intake and show you exactly where you need to grind. Intakes are always casted smaller than the head ports.
