hydraulic throw out for tremec
« on: January 16, 2009 - 02:45:06 AM »
Hi guys iam thinking of converting my challenger to a tremec
with .64od.
i was told to use kieslers  hydraulic clutch!
is it worth doing that or leave it the original way?
waste of money or not?
In Aus its like $1000 dollars for it.
Also the guy said that i can use the a833 big block bell housing
he has done the conversion to a dozen cars or so with no probs.

I would use the Classic system over Keislers . Keislers hyd cluctch is not fun to work with Classics is better with a proper bleed system , I believe the std clutch linkage cannot be used with the tremec  but maybe your guy knows better or has modified the stock belhousing for the tremec allowing the mechaical clutch linkage to work . I would stick with the factory stuff if you can .

thanks Chryco,
My supplier said that i have to modify my bell housing,
but he has the information for me to do it.
And my last post another member said he had a bell housing that
kiesler had modified.
So am a little unsure what to do, because if it doesnt work i
then have to import some thing from the states.

Here is some pictures of the Kiesler modified bell. I bought one of the very first kits they had. At the time modifying a used bellhouse was how it was done.
Later the cast housing were available and it was swapped out.
I am installing the Kiesler hydro clutch on my current car but have not installed it in the car yet so I'm no help there yet.

You can run the stock z bar and clutch with this bell or the newer cast housing. I ran a duel disc on this car.

i dont want to wreck a good 833 bell housing.

Though I haven't done mine yet I think the bleeding issue is that the bleeder when installed by the directions has it pointed down. This will probably be the problem getting all the air out.
Will see when I get that far.

The bleeder is on the braided flex line, couldn't you possition it the way you need it.
I haven't gotten to that point yet. Just opened the boxes.

Good evening guys -
The system that Classic Motorsports is using is a Tilton master cylinder with a Ram Throw out bearing.  The throw out bearing uses a two line set to bleed the system properly and quickly.  The worst thing to fight with a hydraulic installation is air in the system.  The system comes with a variety of reserviors for remote location, firewall mount with a backing plate and all the required hardware for the installation.  Please note that none of these parts are modified to fit the application but carefully matched and road tested.

As far as bell housings go.  The options are becoming more and more every day.  You have the cast options, Quick Time and Lakewood Scattershields.  As far the modifications to an existing bell housing....this can be done, however, please keep in mind that the factory bell housing are almost 40 years old.  For those that have an old Lakewood, please send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you the machining drawing for the modification.

If you do not want to go the hydraulic route, you can still reuse the factory z-bar and linkage and save about $200.00 in the auto to manual conversion.  Note - all the z-bar's and linkages are available on the open market from B/E & A in the U.S. or P&G Classics in Canada.  Pedal sets are available for $189.00 from these companies are better than original.

Feel free to ask questions!  Thanks -

Tony Edler

Are there any tips on bleeding the Keisler design?

Yup bleed what you can from the bleeder & then pump it for a few days or weeks until the rest of the air goes ou tthe top into the reservoir , or better yet repolace it with a properly designed part  :banghead:
