Anybody else here get paid for doing what they love?
« on: January 22, 2009 - 12:06:30 AM »
This is probally nothing compared to some of you other guys but I have to share. I'm currentley job-less (being 16...it's hard to find one) so I found another way to get money while I job hunt. I build model cars a lot and it's one of my passions (besides Mopars, music and guitar). I know of a guy who builds model cars for people and a guy asked me about me building one for him when I posted pictures of my models on Moparts. I thought my friend could do a better job and sent the Moparts guy to him. Well, I got an email last week from that guy saying my friend never replied and he'd like me to build the model for him. Of course, me being almost broke and wanting to get my Duster ready for summer shows, I said yes. It started something for me. Now I'm building model cars for people and the best part is....I get paid to do something I love. And all the money is going towards the Duster which is awesome. I now have 4 models on the desk for people and 1 more is on the way. I love this! :)

That's cool. I love the company I work for. Not so much the position I am currently in but that's ok because i am just starting out in the company and good things are right around the corner for me. I have a boss who wants me to succeed and is willing to help me any way he can, I am in a Masters degree program that work is paying for and I am getting right to apply for an accelerated leadership program at work. I should probably say what I do. I am an engineer for Lockheed Martin.

Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I gave up working for people , I was always getting ripped off one way or another , maybe there are some honest employers but after 64 Job I have only found 2-3
Now I build real cars for people , it takes guts to give up the regular paycheck & I doubt I will ever own a house or be comfortable nevermind wealthy but it sure beats working , I guess I am living my retirement & I will be paying for it later , the upside of this decision is I have no dependents counting on me .... good thing too because I often do not eat regularly

I love playing guitar but I never really thought at this point in my life I'd be making as much as I do in a band and using it as part of my income.  :grinno:

Good going Cody----Things are looking good.   As my stuff keeps expanding across my family room my wife is threatening to sell mine.  Says she will make some one a very good deal.     :faint:  Keep it up and post what you are doing.  I was suprised  but there are quite a few modelers here.
