Power or Manual
« on: January 22, 2009 - 10:19:29 PM »
I am looking for some input from either side about swaping to New nos Power cop box or Firm feel manual box.
Well I guess that gets answered quick as Firm feel no longer has fast boxes.
Thoughts are still welcome.

Steer & Gear can re-cut power steering for T/A like handling... Not making a recommendation but the standard PS sure is sloppy

Whats the T/A power box? I thought they were standard boxes but with longer pitman arm.

I believe the T/A box is power, not manual.... Let someone who really know confirm this.

Cool thanks.
So what will happen if I put a quick box in without the longer arm?

It was only the longer arm that made it quick ratio. Otherwise it is the same ratio as any other power box (3.5 turns lock to lock).

I prefer the manual box. Mine is a 20:1 ratio (4.5 turns lock to lock) and it keeps my arms pumped up nicely when parking.

I have a standard box with longer arms (pitman and idler).  It definitely turns quicker, but you still feel the slop.  Also, be careful about clearances around neighboring objects (headers, oil pans, etc).

I thought there was a way to adjust some of the slop out of the power box.

I thought the T/A fast ratio box had the same ratio as the standard, the difference being the arm.  The difference in the box was the internal stops that prevented you from turning too far and rubbing the fenders or frame.

Thats it, thats what I remember too. My NOS cop box is a better piece to start with.
So I would only be able to improve the firmness if I don't add a longer arm.
I have been told by friends here in the city that I will regret going to manual. With lots of open road and parking lots it's great, but living down town with lots of  parking and a high ratio I won't be happy.
The last time I had anything with manual was a six cylinder dart.
So I can't remember what it was like. Man I sound so lame.

My current project cuda is getting manual, we put manual steering in my nephew's Challenger and he's happy with it.

I converted my 72 CHallenger to manual steering and love it, my 70 440 6 pack cuda was manual steering and it was fine. My next project a 70 340 challenger is also manual steering. I definitely keep my arms in shape parking though.

Mmmmm, now you guys got me thinking about a 20:1 box from Firm Feel.
Cut that idea, Firm Feel ste says N/A on the box.
