1000 HP engine setup?
« on: January 23, 2009 - 01:40:19 AM »
What would be the easiest and cheapest way to create a 1000HP 440? Im only toying with the idea so dont laugh.

Also, if i went with this application, what other factors should i consider in order to get all that power to the ground? (trans, rearend, gears, suspension, tires, etc...)

I would love to have a FAST yet streetable and reliable car that could run at least 9's in the quarter mile.

"Easy" "Cheap" and 1000hp don't belong in the same sentence.  :grinno:

Go to turbomustangs.com look in the forums for the mopar page. There are some "low budget" cars there making that kind of power
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Build a 600-700 HP stroker and add a BDS blower. That should get you there! :2thumbs:

Forced induction and nitrous are pretty much the only way to get there. Cheap then becomes relative.

Not to be a  :dupe: , but why on earth would you want 1000 hp engine for a street car?  I know it would be cool to say that, but you've got to be looking at $30K+ for anything that is going to be the least bit reliable.  You should build a nice stroked 440 and get 500-600 hp for half that price.

1000 hp, cheap and daily driver do not go in the same sentence.  There's a reason why the only 1000 hp production car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron, goes for $1,000,000.  Obviously, you can do it for a lot less than that, but to have the engine, trans and chassis that will handle that kind of power AND be streetable is going to cost you somewhere north of $50,000.  And that's with you doing a lot of the work.  I doubt it'll be less than $100,000, to be honest.

Think about it - 650 hp big inch crate Hemis go for $35,000.  To get to 1000 hp, you'll have to take the engine apart and do more machine work.  Then you'll have to put on NOS/turbo/supercharger.  To make that streetable, you'll need fuel injection, probably multi-point.  Then you have to have a transmission, driveshaft and rear end that don't explode the first time you dump that power through them.  And you have to build a chassis that won't immediately try to bend in the middle, swap ends or go up in tire smoke.  None of that is cheap.

Sorry to burst your bubble.
