If you could build 950hp to run 300miles out of 18 galons, I would be ringing you up tommorow to order 1  :icon16:

Been done many times over. My last car sold to get my convertible was a 1987 Buick Grand National. 252 cubic inch V-6 with single big turbo. Got 19 miles per gallon on long trips, but burned 2 gallons every quarter mile pass. 3750 pounds with me in it and it ran 9.0 @ 150 in the quarter. Expensive motor, mostly Busch Nascar series internals, Crower this and that, roller cam bearing, titanium valves, etc. Cruise control, A/C, power steering, etc. On the street I ran pump gas and it would run easy 10.0 on it and drag radials. I never pushed it to the edge on pump gas or race gas, but I could push it further safely on the good stuff. When I do it again it will be with a bigger motor and less dependence on the turbos. Instead of 4 hp per cube with smaller cubes maybe something in the 2-2.5 hp per cubic inch. Easier and cheaper to build, last slonger, and is more street friendly if you are just driving it. Any way you slice it they are race cars you can drive on the street if you want to and can get away with it. Calling them street cars or race cars is just an ego thing.

To me, the great "street car" equalizer is pump gas.  If the car meets lighting, sound, horn, wipers......... that's one thing. It could be a street car.  If it meets the above and runs strictly on gas available at any commercial pump, (93 octane) then it qualifies as a street car.  It would be tough to build a 1000 HP N/A car that will make those numbers on pump gas.  I am talking pump gas with zero octane booster or mixing with race gas.    :2cents:

I completely agree....  :working:

I think the problem most of us have that recommend against it is the combination of "easiest" and "cheap".

I dont think I clarified my point well enough in my first post. I understand that building an engine of this caliber will never be "cheap", hence why i said cheapest. But, it is also true that it is possible to obtain that much power through a less expensive setup. The same applies when I say "easiest" as well, there are certainly easier setups than others.

Hopefully this makes sense, and sorry for the confusion.

The trouble with Turbo cars, at least in drag racing, is they are horribly inconsistent. Any Jensen runs one in our ProMod club and he'll do a 6.30 followed by a 7.00. They still haven't figured out how to get the boost consistent from pass to pass.  :grinno:  That and a smart driver racing a turbo car will quickly light the stage beam and not give a turbo car time to spool the turbo.  :naughty:

"What if we remove the turbos and say make 750-850 N/A running on dual Quad double pumper Holleys (or single 4 barrel if its better)? (babying it, never driving on the secondary barrels). Or the turbos is the only way to get mileage + big horsepower. (i hate turbos)"

Turbos are about the only way to make that kind of power and have somewhat decent gas mileage. Even if you were to build something that makes 750-850hp N/A it would require a pretty aggressive roller cam which would mean lots of maintenance. Depends on what you want to do.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

what do you consider aggressive? my sons running a 714 on the street, and we adjust it once a year. and thats daily driving.

As was mentioned before too, depends on what the OP means by "street car". Something that you can drive to the track instead of trailering or something you can drive 300 miles to a car show and not worry about it.

That was uncalled for.  :eek7:  That's not in the spirit of this board to get into name-calling, indirect or not.
