72 cuda rallye dash tach problem

   Hello again guys,
                          My tach is working but is reading very low.  At idle it reads correct or very near, but when you rev the motor it only moves as far as  3000 rpm .

             Just as if its being lazy and cant be bothered !!!       :clueless:       Any ideas  ?

This is one I haven't heard before.   :screwy:

So you idle at 700-800 RPM? I assume you are driving the car when you are testing it, so it doesn't get above 3000 even when you floor it? It's possible it needs rebuilt if that is the case.

the electronics were not very advanced in 69 , get the RTE circuit board & solder it in it will be far more accurate

Plus you need to purchase their tach excerciser to calibrate the tach $35. Unless you have a machine (like an oscilloscope) that outputs a square wave pulse at a known rate. Otherwise you will be revving the engine up and down for hours. The excerciser also (go figure) excercises the bearings by moving the needle up to full scale and back to idle. This frees the needle up. I excercised mine overnight.

       Hi stroker,  Thanks for the info..............but i am getting worried about Rt-Engineering because i have bought and paid for an electronic dash voltage stabiliser from them


            through the website.   Cost  $60  and have had no reply from them !    so i emailed them and the email was returned saying " known spammer"

At idel The tach shows the rpm fine, but when you rev up the motor the tach is lazy/delayed. I called MSD and they said one possible fix is too add a capacitor 0.01µF 1 k Volt between the MSD Ignition 8920 tach adapter and the tach.

Any one have a similar issue?

I know that cudas and challengers are similar, I wonder if this would solve my problem!  I have the MSD street fire boxwith the tach adapter and the tach in my rally cluster doesnt work at all? It is also possible that the shop that installed the MSD screwed it up!
