318 intake gasket ???
« on: January 25, 2009 - 08:29:56 PM »
Can't I just use silicone ??  I have a set of front and rear cork gaskets, but the sides are alumium and it seems the cork gaskets are too thick. I am wondering if I am going to have issues.  I need your advice. Thanks

these are poorly designed IMO yes you can just use a 1/4" bead of silicone , I have seen a lot of stripped intake holes from the difficulty in getting the intake down enough to line up the holes

When I installed the Weiland "action Plus" MANIFOLD on my 76 318, it seems I could see the tin gasket under the manifold  and it did not become "very" flush with the heads ( I could get a small finger nail between the intake and the heads)  Is this normal ???  Is there a big difference in the 318 VS 360 Intake maybe ??? I need your help. Thanks

if it si not leaking I am sure you are ok , I have never liked trying to install 360 port intakes on 318s though

Well, Thanks. The port holes and gaskets were the exact same.  Everything matched up.  I did use silicone, so I think I will have a good seal.  I thighten the bolts VERY GOOD.  I guess I worry too much.
