Proper Black for Tail Panel on Cuda

I can see doing the tail panel in it but how would it look on an entire hood and fender tops?  Alaskan_TA you said you gave up after trying the 3rd can but you hood picture looks complete.  How did you end up finishing it?  How many cans do you think it would take to cover?  Is it uniform or did you end up with stripes?

That hood is on the low mile T/A - that is factory original.

I do not own it, I just have lots of pictures.

Call Roger Gibson Performance. They are the only ones I know of that can still mix the correct PPG laquer formula. Its all I us and it is correct. Totally(?) paint looks fake.

Thanks.  I'll check with Gibson, but what about just spraying the tail panel and hood with a basic flat black.  Or is it actually a semi-flat finish.  I see a lot of T/A's and AAR's that appear to have a smooth, non-textured, surface that look great.  I'm assuming they just decided they did not want to hassle with the Organisol approach.

You can use PPG DDL9423. It is a low gloss laquer and does look nice without the texture.

And it's alot less expensive than the organasol. About $50 for a Qt.

i used SEM bumper paint on mine  Nice texture and just the right sheen, easy to apply, available anywhere and easy to touch up.  My bodyshop buddy reccomended it to me when he painted my car.

Is SEM available in quarts or just rattlecan?

I don't know.  We used rattlecans but it's quality rattlecan paint.

Sem is available in quarts, 39144 is the number. I do have extra quarts in stock. mixed 50/50 with good thinner allow 24 hours before you even think of touching it. I do have it in the rattle can as well, same finish.

Would anyone have a closeup of the SEM ?I am at the same stage and was going to buy the Gibson stuff.Actually,does anyone have a picture of the Gibson stuff?

I know it wont reproduce the original look, but has anyone tried Hot Rod Black from SEM? It's so pose to have a durable satin finish.
