Help With Identifying My Rear Gear Ratio
« on: January 27, 2009 - 01:06:11 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm trying to determine what rear gear ratio I have.  Is it the same for dodge's as it is for Chevys?  I marked the drive shaft and the tire and counted the number of revolutions on the shaft.  It's a Suregrip "489"case.  The drive shaft rotated a little less than 3 and 1/4 times.  Can anyone make a stab at what gearing it is?

Also, can anyone tell me about the Suregrip "489"case.  Is it good, bad, indifferent?  Like I said I'm new to Mopars have been doing nothing but Chevys for the past 25 years.  Thanks again.

Sounds like a 3.23 to me too.  Next one up is the 3.55.  May also be a tag still on one of the nuts on the third member if you wanted to venture under to take a peek.  Sometimes they are pretty rusty though.  Good highway gear.

489 case with a sure-grip is a good rear to have.  :2thumbs:

That's what my rear looks like(insert joke here), and I have 3:23's too.  Have fun with it.   :2thumbs:
