The music world has lost another great one.
« on: January 28, 2009 - 04:34:19 PM »
Billy Powell, well known keyboardist for Lynyrd Skynyrd has passed away.  That leaves 1 surviving member from the original band that is still playing with the band. That is guitarist Gary Rossington.  Mr. Powell was 56 years old.  He was a pioneer of the good ole southern rock band era.  He will be missed......    :angelwings:

RIP!!! :angelwings: That's too young to be leaving!! He will be greatly missed. I think I still have an old Rossington-Collins album (a one of one album) that was really great!! The greats are slowly fading away, but some great new groups have come along as well!!

RIP

On a side note, I heard free bird on the classic rock station today.  It is very very rare to catch that one on the air.

One of the greatest groups ever IMO ! 56, not very old, those boys just live too hard and fast for their own good I guess. Russ, Tony and I were talking about Lynyrd Skynyrd at Carlisle (2007), does anyone know from where they got their name for the band? If ya don't it will surprise you, did me. I happened upon it purely by accident, but it is quite interesting.

RIP Billy  :angelwings:

I didn't hear anything about this till I found out here.
Lynyrd Skynrd brings memories of the Day on the Greens we'd go to back in the 70's. 100,000 partiers

Rest In Peace.

Ronnie VanZandt's grave stone in J-ville. Check out who wrote the poem for he and Steve Gaines. I didn't even realize it till I uploaded it off my camera.

These are some of my most cherished pics.
