I think it's time... ...for Dinner...
« on: February 02, 2009 - 05:12:13 PM »
Okay guys, I think it's time.

Last year we changed our dinner venue from Grandpa's Growler in Mechanicsburg to "Your Place" Restaurant & Pub.

We did this because Grandpa's lot had grown too small for our venue in 2007, the food was terrible, the service was very slow and disorganized, plus it had gone much more "social," and most of our dinner was shadowed over by a very loud and obnoxious cover band.

Only a few people (about 10) attended the group dinner in 2008 at Your Place.  Though we only had one waitress, she was very quick at attending to our needs, primarily because there were very few guests besides us.  We had a buffet, which included two types of pizza, two different cold subs, two types of pasta, two types of soup, salad and breadsticks.  I believe the total came to $9 a person plus drinks.

Feedback from attending members was very positive, noting the abundance of parking behind the restaurant (I have photos still from last year) and the quality and availability of food.  We were able to eat from the moment we arrived.  Drink prices were also very reasonable.

As nearest resident to Carlisle (for now,) I want to make our arrangements for the 2009 show.  Club tradition is to meet for dinner Saturday night, and for the past two years I've attended, it has easily been the highlight of the entire weekend.

So to start, I'd like to find out who is interest in attending dinner with the club on Saturday.  As you post, you may note if you'd like to keep a reservation with Your Place Restaurant, return to Grandpa's Growler, or suggest an alternative.  I will make our reservation next time I'm in PA, over Valentines weekend.

Last year I placed our reservation with the assumption that we'd see a similar crowd as we did in 2007 - nearly 40 people.  I then learned that the large turnout in 07 was due to the Cuda Guy event, and we had a much smaller turn-out in 08.  Honestly it was somewhat embarassing when only 10 of us showed up - but I understand.  I'd just like to be a bit more accurate when I place our reservation this year.  So please vote and try to be honest - if you really don't think you'll make it, vote as such.  Just know that - for those of you who might be new to this event, you WILL have a lot of fun.

Oh, and Your Place is a family-friendly restaurant with a juke-box, pool tables, and a few arcade games.  They also have a full menu that you can order from instead of paying for the buffet.

Feel free to post or PM me with questions.

Where is "Your Place"? If possible, can you show on a map?

Thanks!

Ask and ye shall receive.

Point A is the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
Point B is Your Place Restaurant and Pub.
Point C is the Hotel that most members usually stay at.

For anyone curious, Grandpa's Growler is located just to the left of the word "Goodhope," north of Mechanicsburg, off of route 114.

Just something to consider......

I know two folks that did not go last year after hoping to go, here is why;

I asked at the tent a few times what time dinner was going to be, I got a different answer every time. Everything from, "not sure, just show up" to "we have not decided yet", times were also mentioned from 5:30 to 9:30 depending on who I asked.

I decided to eat closer to my hotel since no one seemed to know when to be there for sure.

So, I suggest that you determine an exact time to be there this year so people can plan their time a little better.  :2cents:

Well, whereas I certainly understand what you're saying, the answer truly was "Whenever you get there."

I can't remember what time we told them to expect us, but Ash and I left the fairgrounds early (skipped the bikini & burnout shows) and went home to shower and change.  We got to Your Place before anyone else, and they were already ready for us.  I made the reservation with the expectation that some people might get there early.  We had an outside patio area reserved for us for the entire evening.  So sure we waited for probably a half-hour before others started showing up, and a few people trickled in maybe another half-hour to 45 minutes later.  We were all just sitting around eating, drinking, and laughing our butts off and probably sat around for another hour after that.

So, some members will stay for the evening events at Carlisle, some won't, but either way you'll have hot food waiting for you.

Hotel and dinner sound good, I like to stay close to the fair grounds or camp so I can have few cold ones at dusk.
Last year my friend and I hooked up with a bunch of guys at the grounds that had there moter homes all set up with music and had this fantastic BBQ going on, it was a lot of fun and no driving if you already at fairgrounds.
But I'll join ya for dinner if you have it.

The place we went last year was great.  But if the weather is bad did they have a private room inside?

I haven't made reservations yet, but this is where we stay. A nice private parking lot in the back for your car or trailer. We usually eat at a steak house within walking distance that Thursday night, then eat pizza in the parking lot that Friday night. It's pretty much a straight 20 minute shot down the Turnpike from the fairgrounds. We had a nice caravan last year.   :bananasmi

They didn't really have a dedicated, "Private Room," but the place is never very busy, and if the weather is bad (which it won't be, right?  'cause God loves Mopars...) they'll rope off enough of the dining room before hand and reserve it for us.

So the short answer is "yes, we'll have room inside."

20 minutes on the Turnpike, but you can take Rt.11 to save the $2 toll, but you hit many red lights. Point B is closer to the Hotel if you are thinking about the drive back Saturday night.
