Steering wheel to close

I am 6'2" tall and when I sit in the drivers seat (71 Challenger), it feels as the steering wheel is way to close. Is there any way to either put the seat back more or adjust the column so it moves forward more or is it just the way it is?

I believe that you will have to do something custom to keep what is in the car, or you will have to go with a new telescoping column.

Find a 6way seat frame and braces, its the only way I roll. I drive my Dads cuda and it feels like Im in a hi-chair....

Only problem with 6 way braces is they cost a small fortune.

I wonder if you could make a set. Cut metal and contour it to floor and then make the upright braces.. just an idea...  I wonder if you could put washers under the front studs to rock it back a little....  Did it in my 72 Pickup

I thought about the 6-way brackets, but remember someone else saying that they put the seat too high for them, and I figured it would be the same or worse in this case.  I'm six foot with the normal brackets, and with the seat all the way back still feel like I'm hugging the steering wheel..

That what I'm going thru. It's kinda hard to act cool driving the Chally with the steering wheel in my chest like some old man going to bingo!

One thing that helped me is taking off the wood wheel and putting on a tuff wheel. That little smaller diameter mades it allot easyer getting in and out!! (I'm 6-ft+)

I'm 6' 2". I have a six-way seat, but it isn't back all the way. I'm 205 pounds, so that might come in to play. I have the seat lowered a little in the front.

Also you could use the tuff wheel can. They are pretty common on A and B-body mopars and are always on Ebay' It's a couple of inches shorter then the Ebody can. I have one on  my '74 and it just feels "right" to me. BTW the E-body wheel bolts right to it.

To get the wheel even farther away you could do the tacky Grant GT adapter. I have a race car with that but it puts the top of the wheel super close to the dashpad. OK for racing but probably too close for daily driving.

Did this to our GT that I used to have the seat all the way back, now I slide up a couple of inches.
 I put rubber bushings about 1/2" thick under the front track .. Strange how a little there changed the whole dynamic.

A guy I know cut a section out of the can and re-welded it. It looks exactly they same now but just a little shorter.
