Hey all,
This is my first post here and I know this isn't 'Cuda or Challenger related but I posted this on the coronet registry and it got 600 hits in 3 days. So to honor my good buddy Chryco Psycho I'm bringing it here to give him even more respect and thanks for being the best, no b.s. straight shooter supercar builder I know of.
Check this out,
After 750 hours body and paint, and about 95% done besides some trim stuff, I finally got the engine broke in and some miles. I have just over 800 miles on the car now. Here's some of the vitals:
440 source balanced 512 kit
4.25 crank
7.1" rods
10.6:1 compression
Lunati solid cam about 580/245
severely ported factory 915s with big valves
Port matched Street Dominator intake
Proform 950 carb
17/8" Ceramic TTI Headers
3" TTI full exhaust with H pipe and Ultra Flow welded mufflers
Solid Motor Mounts
Super Stock Springs
Welded sub frame connectors
Torque Boxes
Optima battery in the trunk
Mustang Dyno Results:
Max Tq 457.3
Max Hp 395.5
Peak Tq was made around 4000 rpm and Peak Hp around 5300 rpm. Keep in mind the power band was smooth and flat as average Tq was 408.2 Ft-lbs from 2100 to 5700 rpm. The lowest it made was 288.6 Ft-lbs at 2100.
Converted to SAE net flywheel HP it made:
527 HP (Average 427hp from 2100-5700rpm)
610 Ft-lbs (Average 545ft-lbs from 2100-5700)
For comparison sake this is a much more "stingy" dyno than a dynojet which generally give an additional 10+%. The operator said mostly anything that hits over 400HP on this dyno is a race piece or supercar. SRT 6.1 Hemi's do about 325 with much less torque. New Supercharged GT-500 Shelby's make about 15 hp less than mine but a bunch less torque. Modded 6.0 vettes about 345 hp. Mildly hopped up 440s about 310 hp
This beast looks all stock with fully restored factory white and black interior and besides a monster tach and a couple gauges down low, runs and drives almost like something your grandma could go get groceries in, as long as she stays out of the north 1/2 of the throttle. If she ventures in that zone she'll be breaking some eggs and crushing the bread. Its as strong as my stock '01 SVT Cobra was at 1/2 throttle, and can play with new Corvettes like a high schooler against a junior high kid. Its got 15" billet magnums from wheel vintiques that were double the price but 1/2 the weight of steel with shaved and redlined GTII 235/60s and 275/60s from Diamondback Tires. A true wolf in sheep's clothing.
Its gone from 60-80 miles per hour in 1 second (timed), and every gear feels as strong as the gear before it. Its built to last 80,000 + miles basically maintenance free as it was decided by Chryco for its purpose and for economy etc. to go no bigger than this cubic inch because of rod ratio, so it was built as one mean boulevard bruiser with big torque and wicked flat powerband. It revs like a motor bike with a 2200 gram rotating assembly (ie small block weight) and weighs about 3700. It sounds like a P****d off T-Rex but with a pretty mild idle at 750 rpms, totally happy on Esso 91 with zero ping. It gets hand calculated 17 mpg at 70-75 mph in overdrive.
I want to thank the famed Neil Chryco Psycho (head tech on cuda-challenger.com, dodgecharger.com) for doing this build and assembly, master head porting, and restoration along with Barry Lutz from Behr Machine for his amazing machine work. We've seen other strokers put down as much as 50-100 hp less with basically the same components, so it really does matter who's doing the build. I haven't driven it in 2 months but I go to bed every night with a smile on my face.
If anyones considering a stroker for the cost these days, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.
Thanks and good luck with your builds!
