new style headlamps. and led's
« on: February 05, 2009 - 08:49:05 PM »
I've been seeing these on alot of newer builds. Can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Anyone see the "Cut Chop Rebuild" 'cuda on T.V. awhile back?   It had these modern looking headlights. All chrome looking. Probably Xenon?  Anyone using something similar?   How about led's for the round tailights?  Anyone try the led bulbs?  Looking for ideas.   I'm going to modify the front valance insert (72-4) on the 'cuda.  Moving the signals to the sides.  Or removing it completely and hiding some small lights somewhere else.    Any thoughts/ideas?

This has a little on the subject.  There are a few other threads but havn't been able to find them yet.

I am all for it.   I think the brighter more modern lights look much better!

all of the BMWs seem to have the Halos now
to me the 70 Cudas ruled just beacause of the light tucked under the hood , so you really didn`t see them unless they were on & you were somewaht low down , there must be 100s of differetn way of doing the front lights , i would start looking at some of the rod shop sites

You will have to use relays to protect the headlight switch & make sure full battery voltage is available for whatever headlights you use. Cheap insurance & easy to install, they can be hidden, check Goodies thread on fitting relays.

There are quite a few options. Not sure what will work.    Diamond cut must be the term.    What's H4? or projector bulbs?   Anyone use the black ones?  Probably aren't too bright! look cool.   I'll find something.   Thanks' CP!

I put them in my truck, should be the same size, 7".

Not halos, but are super bright at night, yes they are the H4 bulbs.  Look on ebay, they go pretty cheap on there.  I got a pair for like $30 or so shipped.

I wired in a whole relay box for brights, dims, horn, and electric fan.

Goody has a write up on his page, and I'm going to do a write up on the whole box.  One of these days.   :misbehaving:

hey thanks!!!    So the halos just have that driving light ring around the outside?   Is the light more white like xenon?

Oh, and they do make Halos in 7", but I couldnt find any white ones, just blue.  Last thing I need is to get pulled over.

There is a company over on the LXforums.com forum that will install halos in anything, for a price.  Go to http://www.automotivelightstore.com/ and check out some of the stuff.  I contaced them, and they said that if the glass can be removed from the housing, they can install a halo ring in there.  They would probably do it for a couple hundred bucks, I never asked on a price.

Sorry, I was typing while you posted.  Halos can come in a variety of colors, even red.  The most common and legal color is white.

I will be using the reds.  When I get to that point of course.
Not too worried about "the boys".  Well worth a light ticket.
I would rather have what I want and just pay the occasional ticket.
Kind of like the front license plate thing here in Colorado.  Don't like it so I don't put it on.  I've gotten like 6 warnings.

71BigBlock, thanks for the link.

Yeah, red halos it is. They would be too cool on my ride. Driving around on the street I'll just be prepared to get pulled over.  And at the nite cruises it would be awsome!  What's up with the black ones? Anybody seen them? Then   mayby some custom l.e.d driving lights up where the 70's are on my '73 grille? Real small. Or push them way off to the sides...opening up more airflow.

I keep seeing new taillights that might fit into the round taillights of the 'cuda's (72-4)     Nissan's n' crap.    Anybody know of any custom lights for the 72's-74's?  I was going to check out those l.e.d. bulbs. But wanted something more custom.
