I'd split it at the factory seam and open it up 1/8" or maybe 3/16" to match up with the quarters and fenders. But that's just me. Is that a T-top Firechicken in the background?
A utility knife with a bunch of new blades will be your friend on the windshield removal. You can even heat the blade with a propane torch to make quick work of that pesky seal. You'll likely have to cut from the inside and outside.(Just in case you didn't already know all this )A big hammer might be tempting, but not a good idea.
