Hey John, any tips you can offer the rest of us on metal fab...what tools you're using (brake, press, shear, etc.)  Any "practice" ideas?

i have a:
shear, brake, slip roll, press, bead roller, flanger, shrinker/stretcher, portable shears, shot bag ,dollies, assorted cut off tools, body saws, a good welder, and the appropriate clothing( cape, good gloves, and a good helmet). oh and beer, lots of beer.

i recommend making templates out of poster board. eventually you will just aquire the ability to visualise what you need.
buy lots of sharpies, and a good tape measure.
other than that, its just lots of hands on, and be prepared to fail alot. it gets easier as you learn the habits of certain angles, curves and radii.
take your time, tack the repair on in minimal spots until your sure your happy.
think fast and move slow.
im sure theres a ton of stuff i didnt mention.
i hope it helped.  :2thumbs:

Can't you just picture him in his cape with the big SF on it, torch in hand?

i may buy a plasma cutter if i can justify usage.

maybe you do, i dont seem to have any problems.

trust me, once you start using plasma cutter, you'd be asking yourself how you been working all the previous years without it

thats funny, ive used em for years, yet i seem to get along fine without one.
ill pass.

just spent some time cutting out some more suspect areas, and had to boogie home to make some c-pillar bracing.
you will see that tomorrow.

Some welder's I've met call the business end of all their machines "torches", so I wasn't referring to acetylene per se.

"Capecuda"??   :dunno:  :)
Lookin good john. Id rather patch that inner roof frame like your doing then seperate it from the body. Hows the cowl on it? do you have to replace it or patch?
