Driveshaft Yoke Size
« on: February 07, 2009 - 10:12:41 PM »
The driveshaft on my AAR has a 2-1/8" yoke in front and 2-5/8" at rear.  Is this correct?  I guess I thought the 7290's had 2-5/8" on both ends.

Does it have one of those adapter u-joints (2 1/8 on one side and 2 5/8 on the other)?

an unmodified shaft should have the 7290 at both ends possibly yours was cut down / built from a longer shaft

Although I can't rule anything out, I can't think of any reason why anyone would intensionally set it up this way, unless it came from the factory like this (even then seems odd).  The trans is original and that's the end with the 2-1/8".  Specification calls for a 7290 shaft for my car.  I suppose someone could have replaced the 2-5/8 slip yoke with a smaller one and then had the driveshaft end replaced with a smaller yoke to match but I don't know why anyone would go through all this trouble.  I can't think of any other plausable reason for this.  From what I understand, this should be the same driveshaft used on 440 & 426 Cudas.  Anyone else with an AAR know what they have?

Mine on my barracuda is the same way, it's a 318 4-speed.

Any AAR or T/A owners who can verify this is the correct drive shaft configuration?

I would of bet money against that.

Little joint in front & big one in the rear for AARs & T/As.

Maybe some others as well?  :dunno:

The guy at the driveshaft place in huntsville took the original joint and strap off when I had it shortend for my dana.  The car sat in a garage after 1973 with very little miles on it.
