New Here
« on: February 08, 2009 - 12:44:58 PM »
Hi.  My name is Brian and I just joined a litle while ago after being directed here by a couple members of the Dodge Charger site. I am located in Upstate New York currently and I wish I could boast about owning a '70 AAR Cuda or 70 T/A Challenger, or a '71 Hemi Cuda, but I can't.  Heck, I can't even boast about owning ANY 'Cuda or Challenger right now, but I'm hoping that will change in the near future. I do, however, own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd standard cab pickup so hopefully that counts for something.  :dunno:

I will probably just surf and lurk for awhile until I get a feel for things around here.  I am going to be in the market for a classic Mopar in the coming weeks and months though. I will be looking for a Challenger, Roadrunner, 'Cuda, Charger, or GTX most likely. I don't want any "clone" cars but would rather own an authentic car if possible. I'm going to hold off posting my wants for awhile as well so people don't think that's the only reason I joined this forum because it's not. I just simply have an undying passion and love for the classic Mopars, regardless of style or name.

I do moderate a site dedicated to scale model replicas of Mopar models though.  It's amazing what can be done to plastic model kits these days.  If y'all want, feel free to click the link and check it out.  If you're into building models, then feel free to join as well. http://mopars.proboards.com

Anyweways, I look forward to learning more about the 'Cuda and Challenger and who knows, maybe I'll find my car through this site. Time will tell.   :2thumbs:

Bri

Hey Brian!      Wish i would have found this site before i got my car.It would have saved alot of hassles. I did alright though. There's tons of nice people here.Don't worry you'll find something. Sounds like you've got expensive tastes though. A 72-74 car saves alot of coin. :2cents:   Anyway, WELCOME to the site!!!     Robert.

Well, I can start by showing you the '71 Hemi Cuda I just finished a couple weeks ago.  Talk about a work in progress...this model was started back in 1990 when it first came out and I am now just finishing it, over a decade later.  Can you imagine how long it will take me with a 1:1 version?  :scared:

Here's my current project, a '69 Dodge Daytona...

Here's a '70 T/A Challenger I built a couple years ago as well...

Brian, welcome to the site.  You'll find lots of help here with your search and then any build info or support you could want.  And no, you don't have to have a Mopar - a sincere appreciation is good - but actually owning one is better.  So, with a Ram truck, I think you qualify.  :2thumbs:

I love those models.  If you can't have the real thing, the scaled down version can be a good (temporary) substitute.

 Hi Brian, welcome!  Nice models!

No need to have one of these cars to peruse the forum.  Lots of nice people here with lots of info.  Feel free to ask questions even if they are questions needed to complete your models.

Models are way cool, lets you fill your dream garage without breaking the bank, at least not too much.  ::)

I like to do models as well, but not just Mopars.  I have a '72 Challenger 1:1 and made a 1:24 scale model from an ARII kit (Japanese), as seen in the last 2 signature pics and avatar.  I liked this kit because without getting into the vintage rare kits, it was the best kit IMO to make a replica of a '72 Challenger ('70 Challengers are easy to find in comparison), although the engine and interior are lacking.  I do like the opening doors and the "DODGE" and Challenger" scripts are easy to paint.  Funny thing is that over 30 years ago, I did the same car when I was younger when ARII was Otaki.

Hang out and have fun!   Check out bentpushrods on this forum.  He makes some AWESOME diaramas!!!  :grinyes:

I appreciate the warm welcome guys, it means alot. I'm torn between finding a Mopar that is already road worthy ir finding one that needs a restoration. I am leary of buying anything in this area of the country due to the salted roads and environment here. I have looked at several "restorable" Mopars in this region that I felt were too far gone to try saving.
I have been watching E-bay as well, but I am still leary of buying anything from there as well. I am not in a rush to buy a car right now and am trying to weigh the pros and cons of the condition the car is in vs. the location and all other factors. It also doesn't help that my taste is obviously for the more sought after Mopars either. Of course I would LOVE to score a '73 or '74 Roadrunner in decent shape as they were one of my favorite bodystyles, but they don't seem to be one of the more popular styles out there...
Oh well, time will tell what I end up with I guess...  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :clueless: :clueless: :clueless: :1zhelp: :1zhelp: :1zhelp:

Never know what you might find.  I got my car in New Hampshire and it's not the typical "rot box" one would expect to find in New England.

Here's a sweet one in NY, don't know your price range but this one is a looker!

I inquired about this car and have gotten nothing but excuses.  Some guy is coming tomoorow to look at it...somebody's coming this weekend...I'll let you know if it sells before this date and so forth.  I live less than 2 hours from this guy and can't get directions to even go look at the car.  Believe me, I'd love to.  As far as i'm concerned, it's a con game of some sort, just not sure what yet...  :bricks1:
